A new futuristic JRPG “Mato Anomalies” announced for 2023
Koch Media and Prime Matter plan to release the mysterious new turn-based JRPG “Mato Anomalies”, developed by Shanghai-based studio Arrowis in 2023. The game will be released for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC (Steam) next year.
Mato Anomalies was announced at this year’s Japan Expo in Paris, but pricing for the next title has yet to be confirmed.
Mato Anomalies (or Mato Endless Spiral in Japanese) is set in a post-apocalyptic metropolis with a mix of traditional buildings and futuristic structures inspired by old Shanghai, named Mato. The detective protagonist and his companions will have to unravel the many mysteries and secrets that lurk in the shadows, shrouded in darkness. Eventually, the protagonist will enter another world that lies beyond the glamorous new city and fight for what they must protect.
In Mato Anomalies, players control two main characters, a young private detective named Doe and a mysterious exorcist named Gram as they investigate the city through a series of exploration and battle phases. As a detective, you will have to visit various locations and talk to many NPCs to collect clues to solve the mystery. Meanwhile, as an Exorcist, you’ll battle demonic and terrifying beings in an alternate underworld through a secret dimensional rift.
In addition to characters having a shared health bar, there are strategic systems called Gear Matrix and Dual Talent Systems. It’s also possible to gain new companions and friends as the story progresses, and a glimpse of those friends and the godlike foes that will stand in their way could be seen in the recently released trailer. A teaser epilogue also hints that there’s more to Mato Anomalies’ story than what’s already been teased today.
According to Prime Matter’s press release, Mato Anomalies was developed over the past two years by a creative team of over 50 talented people. The game is built with a global vision in mind, and the publisher intends to promote it in different markets around the world and use its marketing experience to make it a success. The game will be available in stores both physically and digitally.
