Arc Raiders’ first gameplay footage shows futuristic full-scale warfare

Embark Studios, the new team made up largely of former DICE developers with years of experience working on the Battlefield franchise, recently unveiled their first game. Arc Raiders will be fully revealed at the 2021 Game Awards, and for now, Embark only showed a short, fuzzy trailer. Very little can be discerned from this particular Arc Raiders trailer, the only semi-clear gameplay action moment showing anything eerily reminiscent of the Spheroid invasion episode on Futurama.

However, a lot more information about the game’s development process is already available on the Emark Studios development blog. Concept images and design notes were posted as early as February 2019, when the project did not yet have a name. Arc Raiders appears to be set on a retro-futuristic version of Earth, or at least a very Earth-like planet, and early gameplay footage shows full-scale combat in wide open spaces, with infantrymen running around while aerial vehicles bombard them from the sky. Overall, the images are no different from the typical gameplay of a Battlefield game.

Beyond these little snippets of gameplay and concept art footage, we know that Arc Raiders will be a third-person PvP shooter running on the Unreal 4 engine. We hope to find out a lot more about the game at come when it’s officially revealed on December 9 at the Game Awards.
