Inside Real Madrid’s ‘futuristic’ Bernabeu as the stadium converts to all sports

A new video has been released that takes viewers inside Real Madrid’s futuristic upgrades at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, which will allow the club to host multiple sports.

According to the video, the La Liga giants will be able to host NFL, NBA and tennis matches, as well as concerts and exhibitions.

Club president Florentino Perez has secured more than £ 400million in funding to fund the renovations, with construction starting in fall 2019.

Plans were intensified when the Covid-19 pandemic struck, with 1,000 workers coming to the site around the clock as the first team played their matches at the club’s training ground.

The work is ambitious to say the least, with the addition of a retractable roof and the increase in capacity to 81,000.

Although Real are back at the Bernabeu, the job shouldn’t be finished until the end of next season.

The video begins by showing the exterior of the ground, with a futuristic silver skin, which will use twice as much shiny steel as the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao.

Will the improved Bernabeu be the best stadium in the world? Let us know in the “Comments …” section.

Viewers are then taken inside the pitch lobby, along with the adidas club store, before seeing an aerial view of the pitch.

The pitch will eventually be retractable, separated into six different sections and stored on top of each other in a newly dug cave 35 meters deep under the east stand.

Underneath will be an artificial surface, with video showing how the stadium can be configured to host exhibitions and concerts.
