Miner arrested in death of Mississippi man
BESSEMER, Alabama (AP) – A minor is in custody in the 2020 shooting death of a Mississippi man whose body was later found in an abandoned house in Alabama.
Bessemer Police Chief Mike Roper told news outlets on Tuesday that the young suspect was arrested in Bessemer on a felony murder charge in the death of Michael Jones, 45, of Columbus, Mississippi.
Roper did not disclose the name or age of the suspect.
It was not known if the suspect had a lawyer who could speak on his behalf.
Jones went missing on May 20, 2020, after quitting his job in Columbus.
His van was found two days later and a new search led investigators to Jones’s body in the vacant house.
The family said Jones arranged to meet someone to buy an iPhone 11 and believed he was drawn to death.
