Opening of Matt Moran’s Canteen at the Sydney Opera House – hospitality

Solotel obtained the site currently operated under the name of Opera Kitchen for a period of three years following a public call for tenders.

The group will replace the current Opera Kitchen concept with House Canteen, which will be open all day, seven days a week.

“It’s hard to beat this waterfront location at the Opera House,” says House Canteen co-owner Matt Moran.

“We’re thrilled to continue to be part of such an iconic venue for our city with House Canteen. It’s a relaxed and welcoming offering with many crowd favorites on the menu.

House Canteen will open its doors this week on October 13 and kick off its first trade day early with pastries, donuts and Single O coffee.

The lunch and dinner menu will emphasize Asian-inspired cuisine and will cover dumplings, rice paper rolls, sushi, Korean fried chicken as well as seasonal specials that will change based on ingredient availability. .

Australian producers will feature prominently on the drinks list, with wines, beers and cocktails featuring the country’s top makers.

“Our harborside restaurants are a distinct calling card for locals and visitors alike, so we’re thrilled that Matt Moran and Solotel are reimagining the former Opera Kitchen space as the House Canteen,” said Jade McKellar, Chef of customers of the Sydney Opera House.

“Their innovative concept will reinforce the venue’s status as a destination restaurant and bar while continuing to provide our audience and visitors with a vibrant and diverse dining experience.”

Solotel is currently the operator of neighboring site Opera Bar, and is finishing the year at full speed with the group which has just launched Rekodo at Barangaroo House.
