The Popcorn Theater ends with cartoons
The wacky antics of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd, Porky, Sylvester and more will fill the theater when the Tibbits Popcorn Theater presents “Classic Cartoon Cavalcade” on August 5 and 6, along with a selection of 1940s cartoons and 1950.
All performances are at the Tibbits Opera House, 14 S. Hanchett, Coldwater.
Even before the days of Saturday morning cartoons on television, young people flocked to movie theaters, including Tibbits, to enjoy these cartoons on the big screen before their favorite soap opera, Buck Rogers, Flash Gordon or The Lone Ranger. . In its homage to the past, Tibbits has compiled another collection of these memorable classic cartoons. Previous “Cartoon Cavalcades” have proven the stories’ timelessness in their ability to create pure joy and raucous laughter.
Seven shorts will entertain audiences in small doses with big punches. They include “One Froggy Evening” featuring a singing and dancing frog; “Jumpin’ Jupiter” in which Porky and Sylvester’s campsite is towed into space; “Much Ado About Nutting”, in which a squirrel finds a particularly difficult nut; and “An Itch in Time” with Elmer Fudd, his poor pooch and a flea. Other shorts include “French Rarebit”, featuring Bugs Bunny; “Lumber Jerks”, about a pair of ground squirrels getting ready for winter; and “Duck Dodgers in the 24½th Century”, featuring Daffy Duck and Marvin Martian.

New this year, Popcorn Theater will have reserved seating. Tickets are $10 including fees and are available online at Tibbits.org; at the Tibbits Administrative Office, 93 W. Chicago St., 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays; by dialing (517) 278-6029; or at the box office one hour before the show. All tickets are charged an installation/ticketing fee, whether in person or not; there is no additional charge for online ordering. Group and family rates are available from five tickets.
