For many MCU fans, Thor: Ragnarok is one of the best of the 20+ movies released in the franchise. He took the theme of Thor’s solo releases in a very different direction than his first two films, thanks in large part to the directing of Taika Waititi. While Waititi’s take on Thor was a bit lighter, many fans felt that it also involved much more in-depth character exploration and excitement. While it’s not uncommon for directors to include references to iconic moments in cinema in their work, fans also noticed that Waititi’s signature on the film seemed to contain a few nods as well. Star wars in his films, but not the holy trilogy that many would think at first.

Waititi and Thor

After the poor reception of Thor: The Dark World, many fans wanted a fresher take on the god of thunder, and Waititi was happy to give it to them. Thor: Ragnarok has a bit of burlesque and farce, but also looks like a compelling space opera. The previous tone of Thor the movies were somewhat Shakespearean and felt a bit more serious and dry than its other MCU counterparts.

The comical and sometimes irreverent tone of Ragnarok strikes a much more unique tone for the Asgardian. After the third of her appearances, Waititi was finally able to give the character her own unique style.

After his work on The Mandalorian and the news that Waititi runs an upcoming Star wars movie, fans also noticed some interesting Easter eggs after they revisited Ragnarok. At Reddit, one fan pointed out with a video edit that there are several occasions where Obi-Wan and Anakin’s scenes in the previous trilogy almost exactly match Thor and Loki in Ragnarok.

Some cynical fans were quick to note that it could be related to Waititi looking for the job with Star wars or Disney cross-promoting their properties. One fan even simply replied, “Di $ ney”.

Some other fans, however, explained that it might just be a coincidence, and two great directors are sticking to proven methods. “None of these scenes are alike from a distance except this shot and only because his two people are standing in an elevator,” said one fan. One even dismissed the coincidence of the two elevator scenes, where the choreography and movie angles of the two characters almost match in both movies, saying, “I don’t think that’s a reference, but just a fairly standard plan blockage for a stage two-person elevator. “

More from “Star Wars” and “Thor”

Waititi did not finish her work with Thor, because Thor: Love and Thunder is expected to hit theaters in 2022 according to IMDb. Fans loved the new direction he took Thor: Ragnarok but this time it will probably offer more surprises for fans.

The acclaimed director is co-writing and also directing a still-unknown film Star wars film which should be released in 2025 according to Bounce in the comics. No matter what theories fans concoct, he’s unlikely to have been nominated for the project due to an audition via secret references in Thor: Ragnarok. On the contrary, LucasArts boss Kathleen Kennedy explained, “Our Star Wars theater roster is moving into a future new era. As we announced recently, we are currently developing a brand new Star Wars feature film with acclaimed Oscar-winning filmmaker Taika Waititi.

What makes a good Star wars the film is a fairly controversial topic around fans, something that Waititi himself mentioned that he is fully aware of. It’s hard to say if Taika Waititi can invigorate Star wars as he did Thor, but somehow fans will have to wait until 2025 to find out.
